I brewed my Galaxy IPA yesterday, expected OG was 1.070 but I ended up at 1.066. I'm going to try to make up that missing amount when I add in my dry hops. I figured out that I would need about 3.5 oz of table sugar to make up that last .004 points. Since I'm doing two charges of dry hops, I'm going to split that amount of sugar up and add half for each charge. I should probably melt the sugar into water first, right?

I guess I don't have any other questions, other than; does this plan sound about right?

That's pretty much exactly what I did with my Wandering Barbarian IPA.  I split my sugar addition in half (I had nine ounces total), dissolved it in a little boiling water, and added half with each dry hop addition.

Obviously, I don't have a comparison to a beer done without it, but this beer turned out outstanding... so I'd say your plan sounds good.

Yeah, that's kind of where I got the inspiration for this plan. I also realized (too late) that the Vermont Yeast is recommended to use sugar in the beer to help dry it out. This amount of sugar isn't going to help as much as if I had planned for it in the beginning, but it will help.

HBDad - You're able to cold crash right? I can't, so I'm trying to figure out how I should go about dry hopping. Two separate dry hop bags? Try to get the first charge out and fill it with the new hops and put it all back? Skip the bag all together? I guess I'm mostly just worried about all that hop material. Since I can't cold crash, I don't know if it will all settle to the bottom of the fermenter or just end up clogging my autosiphon.

I do cold crash, yes.  I just dump the pellets in and call it a day, and have no issue with dry hops clogging anything.
