Hello, everyone!
After a lot of discussion among the charter members, it has been decided that while "homebrewdad.com" was a fine name for one guy's blog, it's not the most inclusive name for a community of all brewers. So... we're going to change it.
Members, we want YOUR feedback. Please vote today for your choice of a new name for our community!

I like Brew United. It sounds like some sort of union. We can be the wobblies of the brewing world!

I personally favor that one, myself.
People do need to realize that a LOT of conversation took place regarding domain names. There are so many great names that we thought about that simply are not available - people love to buy up any halfway decent domain name in the hops of selling it at an exponential profit.

probably not cheap, but did you also check .beer top domains?
Posted 34 days ago.
I did not. We discussed that, but I really felt like I'd rather go .com. People still regularly have trouble with .net and .info addresses; I'd hate for people to not find us/mis-link us due to a .beer.

94 responses so far... nice turnout, folks!
I plan to close the poll tomorrow evening.

The turnout continues to be strong. 138 votes, now.
I think that a most of the "I hate both of these" voters don't realize just how many domain names we tried. Basically, we took "brew" and "brewing", added in a ton of other words, then literally broke out a thesaurus to help come up with other possibilities. There simply are not very many available domain names related to brewing that are any good.
If you want to vote "I hate both", that's fine - but please consider making a suggestion.

I'm really not the most creative when it comes to naming beers, much less online brewing forums.. I wasn't crazy about either names, but I'm also not creative enough to come up with one..

Would you believe that the top two were already taken?
So very many domain names were already reserved by other people. Heck, assuming that we go with one of these two choices, the other will then be reserved but not in use.

It could be that most people that are voting 'I Hate These' prefer the homebrewdad name. (I know I do). It may be better to get an idea of what your goal is for this website. Are the 'charter' members actual monetary investors or just a community?

Hi Winslow,
I considered adding "keep homebrewdad.com as the name" as an option. The bottom line is that while this site was just my personal blog, the name made so much sense. However, if we want it to be a community open to all, the fact is, the name is not very inclusive - especially to women. Would you join a site named "homebrewmom.com"? Probably not.
I want this site to not be about me. I want it to be about all of us. Sure, I'll continue to post my personal blog here - and that personal blog will continue to be "Homebrew Dad", but the forums, the blogs from other people, the recipes... these are not "homebrewdad", these are all of us.
Which is why we anted to look at a name that included everyone.
Yes, changing the site name is scary. I was reluctant to do so, for other reasons... as well as those you mention. But in the end, I want this place to be not just a site with a message board, but the best homebrewing community online. A name change just made sense.

brewunited has an open/universal appeal that will help encourage new visitors.

Of the two, brewunited sounds better, but I can't say I like either of them. I don't have anything better though . . .

Although I agree on a different name to make the site more inclusive and broader sounding, I'm not really a fan of either of them but preferred Brew Village. Not really sure of a name I would prefer though.
