Asking for some input...

You know I focus quite a bit on water chem, and to a lesser extent on supporting the Brew-Magic community, but really trying to crystalize what Accidentalis.com is about. Looking for some feedback... anything really.

The critical experimentation is pretty well covered by Marshall...
You guys pretty well cover the serious science, and that is something I am not terribly qualified for...
Of course, Mike T covers the sours...

I plan to do about 4 or so of the Water Series relative to specific styles, and want to cover some additional gear oriented batches, like the hopback. Planning also to focus a bit on British styles, but this really doesn't zero in on what Accidentalis should or can be.

So just looking for some ideas...

I think that you have to blog about what interests *you*.  Don't try to be someone else, but don't be afraid to cover the same territory that some may have covered; there is value in multiple takes on similar topics.

Again, it has to be your passion, your interests... otherwise, it rings false.

Agreed with Olan.

I think of it like this. I can get homebrewing ingredients anywhere. There are two stores within ten minutes of me, and I'd gladly travel longer. I could also order supplies online, with some deals that would be cheaper for some bigger items. But I ALWAYS go to a specific store. If he doesn't have it, I see if he can order it. Usually he can, but if he can't, that's the only point which I will order something online.

He isn't offering anything that someone else isn't, the man is passionate about homebrewing and it is clear that he wants to talk about it. That sells it for me. It is my favorite part of the shop, of Olan's blog, of Marshall's blog, etc. etc. etc. People who are passionate and clearly understand that conversations being had in homebrewing, and who want to join those discussions, are my favorite kind of brewers.

Also, I love your blog. Really enjoy the writing style, I really enjoy the detail you go into (especially this last post about the water chemistry and its affects on a brown ale).

If you're just looking for blogging ideas, do what interests you. I've been doing a bunch of things with high-gravity beers while editing the wood primer. I love both those things, and a lot of pots end up being relevant. Heck, even things that I'm doing for myself will probably be blog posts because I find them incredibly interesting.

Thanks guys - I get the passionate part - and just worried the water chem thing is getting a bit thin. Had a buddy ask when I was getting my dissertation done for a master's degree, and I try to keep most of the heavy chem and math out of it.

Didn't get to brew this weekend - that might be part of my lull - and the stupid growler + relentless rain = blues.

Matt,

So much left to do with water chemistry:

Starters: Magnesium or not. Do certain additions to starters help with certain beer styles? Lagers? Ales?

Salt: Pure NaCl - does it have a place?

Magnesium - what styles does it help?

You could go on and on if it's something you're interested in......
