Using a fabric filter for homebrewing allows the process ahead of releasing the wort into the boil kettle to be modified. Finer grind, no sparging, less time to convert, and a more fluid transfer of wort means more sugars in less time. Head on over to http://www.brewinabag.com/ to see what we're all about.

Got a question for you:

I have a custom made BIAB much like the ones shown on your site, but made by another vendor.  I like it a lot, but I've noticed at the seams where it's stitched, the voile is starting to tear from strain.  I haven't ever used more than about 16lbs of grain for a batch, so I wouldn't think it's a case of overfilling the bag.  Have you seen this kind of issue with your bags?  Have you tested out the max weight capacity of your bags?

It's likely not the strain that is tearing the voile - it's the stitching that's weakening / separating and allowing the ends of the threads to be seen. Voile is polyester and very strong. We have photos of one of our bags suspended above a fifty-five gallon drum that was FULL of grain that the brewer estimated weighed 413 pounds. We designed our bags to be a brew-tool - something a brewer used every time and could depend on. Serging and stitching a seam makes it very strong and that's likely how your bag is made. Adding the strapping to cover that seam transfers the strain to the strapping, so even if there's a machine or user error in the seam, the strapping eliminates seam failure. We've never replaced a bag due to manufacturing failure - and to date not one report of fabric failure.
