@uberg33k: FYI, you just advised Olan to taste a piece of jaggery, and then told him that any adjunct from a place like Thailand (chances are it came from India) is unsafe to consume!

@homebrewdad: you're going to need to dissolve that sugar in hot water; otherwise you may find pebbles of it in the bottom of the fermenter when you go to bottle.

I just sub it for other sugar. For example, I think Murphy's Irish Stout called for 8% sugar of some sort, and while I modified other parts of the recipe, I used the same percentage of jaggery.

I didn't say unsafe to consume, I said not sanitary for beer.

People eat lots of things that wouldn't be sanitary.
