Did you measure once and cut twice?
On the bright side, maybe trim it down further and you can run another board inside to hold it in place (glued/screwed to the bottom of the collar?)

+1 necropaw.....use that as your back corner if it is going against a wall. Are you going to paint or stain? That will help hide also.
