Ugh. Brew night done. Took a bit shy of 5 hours total. Mash was a disaster. Somehow my numbers were off (or I magically gained 3 degrees in the 10 seconds it took me to turn off the burner....), so i started like 4-5 degrees high. Added a bit of cold water to get closer and was happyish. Then the temp dropped because i was doing BIAB in my kettle and its cold out. Then the burner went out (had it on lightly to keep some temp). dropped to below 150.... Got the burner set up and gradually raised the temp by about 5 degrees over 45+ minutes.

Oh well. Looks like i hit my numbers. Vitality starter is on the plate, and ill pitch in the morning. Yay. One more brew to do for the competition now. Should do that tomorrow.

Also...ive made my feelings on cold weather perfectly clear in the past...but theres about 3 good things about brewing when its chilly out (was 50 when i started, probably closer to 40 now?).

A. No bugs. I had one mosquito flying around like it was drunk or something at the beginning, but didnt see another one the rest of the night. It was nice.
B. Groundwater is already sub 60 degrees. Chilling is a breeze, and it only gets better from here...chilling when the water is 37 degrees is pretty nice...
C. Floor in the basement was sub 65 degrees. Perfect fermentation temps without a fridge is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

C'mon guys, have some fun before you ship them out.....

Necropaw, I'd love for some cold temperatures just for brewing day.  That's it.  The rest of life, forget it.  I'm trying to bring my Brown Porter for this competition down from 77 to a pitching temp right now, and all I have are ice packs.  Too humid here for the swamp cooler method.

I was playing around with some names, I change mine all the time.

My 12A -
"Once You Go Brown, It'll Go Down"
"Malted Latte"
"Ow Now Brown Cow"
"Grains Got Too Fucking Toasted, Sorry Judge."

I don't score well on the creative scale for things like this.

Literally the only thing cold weather is good for is brewing.

And having a free freezer outside.

And lack of bugs.

But seriously, when your testicles try to crawl inside of you, you realize its just not worth it.

Can those of us who don't necessarily want to list our local club, do the same?  There are a couple more competitions I'd like to enter, but don't have any interest at all in listing the Maui one as one I belong to.

Man, it was a beautiful day for brewing today. Mid to upper 60s, partly cloudy, not much for wind. Absolutely perfect! Only broke a sweat a couple times, and that was moreso because it was warm in the house and i had to go up and down the stairs a bunch. :P

ESB OG was low...still within the accepted range, though. Tonight ill pitch my vitality starter and then all the beer will be going.

Looks like my Bock is getting close to being done fermenting. Couple days yet and i should be able to start dropping that temp. Woo for getting my keezer back!
