Just about to drop my spreadsheet of all of the medal engraving to the vendor. The medals themselves are produced, but they are getting engraved with the winner's name and category on the back.
Woo!

Okay, these are sent! This includes all style category winners, all Division winners, and the three Homebrew Heroes. The only one not sent is the overall winner who I'll send as soon as the winner is determined (shooting for Thursday).

Awesome!
I read Ray Founds article this morning and finding out that he got a 39/39/41 and didn't even place in Amber put the fear of god in me in regards to best of show.
Oh well, it's been awesome regardless! Also looking forward to finding out who the homebrew heroes are.

Yep. That category was crazy cutthroat. I believe he finished fourth or fifth with that score.

The irony is i chose that one over IPA because i figured IPA would be tougher...

Note to self: do not enter an amber into next years Brewunited Challenge.

I believe Amber was a tough category due to the ingredient list. It really lent to the making of a great Amber. And who knows...maybe next year will have new and exciting ingredients... :)

I can't wait for this one next year, and to see what ingredients are on the list. Preparing properly will be a much bigger priority!

Yep, there will be different ingredients and styles at a minimum. We will talk it over to see what else - if anything - we should change.

That was certainly part of it, and a large part of why i chose to do an Amber, but im not so sure that it didnt lend itself to the IPA style quite well, also. The biggest issue there i'd think is that i'd expect an IPA to have some corn sugar in it to dry it out.

Should be able to get a standard American IPA to attenuate as all-malt. Kelsey McNair's HopFu is all malt and has won Gold at NHC as both American and Imperial IPA.

Yeah, not saying its impossible. Just a bit easier to get that dryness with corn sugar, imo.
that being said, i dont think ive ever used corn sugar in my IPAs, though some have finished a touch sweet, imo.

Ingredient list was beat suited to an Amber IMO. That's why I chose the category, was the only that I thought I could handle 10gallons of, brewed with the ingredients allowed.
Incidentally, I just blew the keg of Vermont version on Halloween.
Then my marzen blew last night.
I now have precisely zero beer on tap.

I know that feel, Ray :(
Im trying not to rush the amber i have going now into the keg, but my impatience is getting the best of me. its been like...a week and a half + since ive had beer on tap.
