We had our yearly "Christmas Village" festival this past weekend here in Birmingham. As always, I made sure to hit the cheese booth.

The primo items from my haul were a block of 8 year old Wisconsin sharp cheddar, plus a block of 13 year old sharp Winsconsin cheddar.

The 8 year is excellent, and rates as a special occasion treat. The 13 year, though... I save this for Chistmas tree decorating. It's just divine.

Though i did see a load of christmas trees being hauled last night...my sister actually saw some a week or two ago >_<

At least the local radio station didn't start playing Christmas music on October 1st this year...

The 13 year was about $17 for a block just a hair over 8 ounces. So yeah, ouch, but SOOOO good.

Damn. I dont think its much more than that per lb here. It used to be pretty much 1 year = $1/lb once you got into the bit older stuff iirc. 5 year was 5-6, 8 year was 8 or so, maybe 9, 12 year was 12-13ish.

Its gone up in the last few years, though. its actually been a while sine ive bought any.

I'm assuming they mark it up when they drive down here.

Cheaper aged cheddar is one of the few things that makes the shitty winters worth living with.

Very nice. I never had aged Wisconsin cheddar, I should correct that.
