Hello, new here with a couple of questions.
For the American IPA, is there any limitation on northeastern yeast strains? ie: Burlington or Vermont yeasts?

Let me get a judge ruling.

From the Rules:
For example, the "Conan" yeast (ECY Vermont Ale or TYB Vermont IPA) has some English characteristics but clearly "grew up" in Vermont and is used almost exclusively in American IPAs.

Is that clear enough?

That is perfectly clear. Those yeasts are legal.

IDK it's written like a total idiot did it.

Alright, stupid question but I just have to clarify: For an American IPA, I need to make sure I use at least 2 kinds of hops (all domestic of course), correct? Obviously one of them has to be Cluster or Amarillo at the required 25%. Just putting in my hop order so I can get this brewed next weekend (and shipped overnight literally days before deadline).

I'll let Olan give you the official ruling, but as long as you use the minimum 25% of Cluster or Amarillo, I think you can use the same hop for the rest of the hop bill (100% Cluster, for example). Between the "25% or more"and "brewer's choice" I think that works.
Probably should be written as "Rest of bill of hops: any American-grown hop(s), including any hop listed above" to be consistent with other language.

Chino is correct. If 25% of your hop bill is Cluster or Amarillo, you meet the requirement (provided the rest of your hops are American). That "rest of your hops" can be Cluster, Amarillo, or any other American hop.
In other words, a 100% Cluster beer is perfectly legal, as is a 25% Cluster, 75% Amarillo beer, as is a 25% Amarillo, 25% Cascade, 50% Citra.
As long as 25% comes from either Cluster or Amarillo, and you use only American hops overall, you're good.

I didn't see it specifically discussed, but I'm assuming rice hulls in the mash are considered acceptable?
Posted 34 days ago.
They are not only acceptable, but they do not count as an ingredient, as they contribute nothing to the beer.
Posted 34 days ago.
They contribute me not wanting to murder something when it takes 20 minutes to drain my mash tun, does that count?

Thanks for the replies!
I'm fairly certain my hop selection is American.
I'm actually kind of excited about making an IPA with corn. I've never done so and always jump at an opportunity to learn something new.

Awesome. That's exactly the sort of reaction that we are hoping for!

Ok great! I think my real question was if it was 100% Amarillo or Cluster, if that would be ok or not. I didn't really want to use 2 different hops in the Stout, but would if it was part of the rules. Thanks!
