Hello I am a new brewer. I wanted to see if the homebrew community is accepting of homosexual members. Thanks

I honestly don't see where your sexual preferences have a single thing to do with the beer you brew.  To me, this is like asking if the community is accepting to people who live in brown houses as opposed to those who live in gray houses, as opposed to those who live in apartments.

Who cares?

My boyfriend and I were asked to leave our local homebrew store after visiting together a couple weekends ago. It was a souring experience towards the hobby so I just wondered sorry.

It was one local shop.  As with almost any large group of people, you're going to get a wide range of responses.

For my money, it's no different, again, than the color of your house.  It has zero bearing on making beer.

Ok thanks. If you have any questions or are interested in the gay community let me know.

If you want to come here to talk beer brewing, I don't care if you're gay, straight, bi, trans, pan, or any other variety of sexuality - what you and any number of consenting adults do in the bedroom has no bearing on brewing.  Likewise, I don't care what religion you subscribe to, or if you are atheist.  I don't care what your political views are.  Again, none of these impact brewing.

This is a community about brewing your own beer at home.  I'm not the thought police, but with that said, I don't know that this is the sort of forum for discussions on sexuality, the gay community, etc.  It's not that you're not welcome here - you are - but that it's just out of place and off topic.  Like, say, if I went to a cooking forum and started discussions on muscle cars; it's just off topic.

tl;dr - if people want to learn about the gay community, they probably should visit a website dedicated to it or to sexuality in general.  If they want to talk about brewing beer, this is the right place for that.

I understand. Thanks, looking forward to spending time with the community. I was worried that the brewing industry was homophobic.

My boyfriend and I usually brew in the mornings. What is your favorite time of the day to brew?

Cool.  I can't speak for the brewing industry, but homebrewers tend to be laid back, cool people.

I usually brew on the weekend.  I seldom get started before noon, and have pushed things to midnight a couple of times.

Sounds good. Do you know many people in the brewing industry? I was hoping you knew some gay brewers that you could put us in contact with. Always looking to expand horizons and all. Thanks, enjoying the website!

Sorry, I don't have any brewing industry connections.  I've spoken with quite a few brewers and brewery reps at various functions and the like, but to be super honest, we talk beer, not sexuality.

Edited in its entirety:

In my opinion, this community is it is accepting of anyone who is interested in homebrewing and follows the Wil Wheaton Re ("don't be a dick!")

If you have any brewing-related questions, please don't hesitate to post them!
