Custom Tap Handle from Half-Yankee Workshop

I won!

As most of you know, Brew United ran a small raffle to give away an awesome custom tap handle from Half Yankee Workshop. This is the same Tap Handle that was previously reviewed by the user Stonehands, and after such an awesome review a lot of us were eager to win.

Thanks to a lengthy discussion about the 2015 BJCP guidelines, I won!

Tap Handle
In all its glory!

I have a thrown-together one tap setup that I use primarily for IPAs and beers that should be drank fresh. It's nothing glamorous, but it's all I have the space, time, and money for at the moment. So this tap handle feels a bit like I'm putting (let's show my red neck upbringing here) "a new chandelier in a haunted house".

The kegerator doesn't deserve the tap handle, it's fantastic. Solid, beautiful wood, it really is fantastic work. I'm pretty jealous of the craftsmanship and my own lack of woodworking skills.

I had some trouble getting it onto the tap. Something about how the screws line up, I need to get it on pretty tight in order to have the board display out. Not a big deal, I plan on replacing this tap pretty soon anyways with a perlick.

Kegerator
Awwwwwww yes

It's pretty tall, I think it will look a lot better on a tap that uses a shank rather than a tower, but it's awesome. I need to buy some chalk so I can write what's on tap (even though, you know, I only have one so it isn't like I forget).

I was out of commission for a few days and I'm still not feeling well enough to be drinking, so I "forced" a friend to have some of my Oktoberfest so I could take a picture.

Hand for scale

It's a little tight because of how tight I had to screw the tap handle on, but I think this will be solved once I go keezer with perlicks. If you read the article by Stonehands, you'll know that this is the handle that the female fitting is not quite dead-center on the bottom of the tap handle. Once it is screwed on, you can't tell at all. It looks awesome, and I'll be ordering more once I make the shift to a keezer. I can't recommend the Half Yankee Workshop products enough, they are really solid quality and I love the look.

That said, I got this for free, and I don't think there is any in particular about the tap handle that makes it "better" than others in terms of quality. If you're looking for custom tap handles, and you like the look, the quality and craftsmanship is awesome and you won't be disappointed. If you don't like the look, or you're looking to save some money, you won't be missing out by going with a different handle. They all accomplish the same thing, but props to Half Yankee for such a quality handle.

Bonus Oktoberfest Pic!

I need to invest in a better camera. Cheers all!

Very nice Tap Handle! I'm in the market for a keggerator, what taps would you suggest/not recommend? I saw you were looking for a perlick?
