What do you guys think about using yeast manufactured on 12-3-14?  Viability on the yeast calculator says 0%.

Do you think there is anyway to salvage and use this yeast?  I used this yeast in March for my Amber Ale and it was a really tasty beer.  I do not believe that this yeast can be purchased anymore, I got it for free when participating in some homebrew competition stuff.

What say you all?!  If I cannot salvage it what yeast do you think I should use for my amber ale?   

Here is the yeast description: A clean, aggressive ale strain well suited for American style ales and German style ales. This strain does well at lower temperatures, but stays clean even at the warmer end of the temperature range. Though it is a slight top cropper during fermentation, it does not settle out quickly and therefore will benefit from a longer conditioning/settling time in the secondary.    Ideal Temp Range: 60-75F; Attenuation: 73-77%;  Flocculation:  Low-Medium;   Alc Tolerance:  10%;     Foam Production:   Moderate;

If I cannot use that yeast I was thinking of using Denny Fav 50.  That is a solid yeast from my experience.

Our yeast starter calculator doesn't believe in zero viability, and pegs the number at 20%.  That may be too generous, but I've read reports of liquid yeast being viable for two years or more.

Make a small starter and step it up.  I bet it will perk up for you.

I am thinking of doing a 30 minute boil as well.  I have never played around with my 60 minute boil times, but I have seen/heard/read all the research that the Brulosopher did and I think Basic Brewing Radio has talked about it before. 

Have you ever tried shortening your boil times?

I've never done a shorter boil, but one of our guest posters did a 5 minute boil for an IPA.
