I got super tired of

1.) My tiny 7lb hopper. It just isn't worth skimping on the hopper size.
2.) Sitting over buckets while milling and then having to put different pieces in different places...

Not to mention the pain of making sure your heavy drill doesn't tip the whole thing over, etc...

Pro tip: cutting the bottom of a water bottle off with a table saw is frightening...

I really Fermware's Homer Hopper mod. If I had a grain mill, I'd like to have that.

Also, I like Bobby M's (from BrewHardware.com) rebuild of his grain mill base so that you could rest a drill on it --> no more sprained wrists or flipped hoppers when you hit a stone in the grist, and you can ziptie to trigger and let it run itself.

Welp, this thread has changed what I may buy next week.  I was planning on picking up the Cereal Killer from AIH (because of decent shipping costs) but the links that Chino posted may make me want to do a hybrid DIY setup now.  Does the MM2 have any real advantage over say, the Cereal Killer?

To OP, I like that setup a lot.

Again, you're talking to a guy who mills at the LHBS here, but it seems that the MM2 is overkill compared to the Barley Crusher/Cereal Killer for most homebrewers who are brewing 15-25 batches per year. The advantages to the MM2 are that Fermware has set up all the templates for a DIY build based on the MM2's measurements, and if you're going to ever motorize your mill, Bobby M suggests getting a 1/2 drive shaft, which I understand is not an option on the CK/BC.

What I eventually buy will depend on any deals and what I can get away with spending. I'd love to be able to get a premium mill like the MM2, SS Crankandstein (so I can wet mill), or Schmidling. But I probably don't need any of them, with my typical 2.5 gallon batch sizes and only brewing 20 or so batches a year.

I hear ya.  After doing some more reading, I'm actually just going to go with the Cereal Killer form AiH, since it's only $99 and they have decent shipping to where I'm at.  The way I see it, the benefits of the other mills just didn't outweigh even the minimal cost differences.  I'm basically going to find the sweet spot with the mill, and "set it and forget it" kind of thing.  Since I'm not using the mash with a bag in the cooler deal, I may go pretty fine with it.
