I know some of you were hoping to get some of the Bootleg Biology strains, and they are now for sale on RebelBrewer.com. This is great if you missed out on them when they were for sale direct or you want to be able to order some other homebrew goodies with the yeast. I ordered the Funk Weapon #1.

I'm down to two bottles of Old Ale I found in my cabinet (woo bottling!), so I need to make some more Old Ale soon since it is one of the beers I want to medal with at NHC eventually. I went Olan's route of brewing as a creative outlet with it, and I love the beer and the feel of it.
I'm really excited to use that strain in it too, a bit of leather and horse blanket. It's going to be freakin' excellent. I'll send you a bottle or two once it is finished in a few months.
I could really see this in a lambic too though, I bet it would be delicious.

Olan have you tried any non sour funky beers? Brett Brown ale can be incredible, and Brett IPA's are excellent.

You're the one who is always going on about it! Though I guess Tony Magee talks about it quite a bit in his book too. Either way, getting that sort of narrative for the beer established really help me feel out what I'd like from it and what I want the affect (affect as in the emotional impulse) of drinking it to be.

Dan - no, but I should do that. I like Belgian funk, so I'm betting that a little funk, a little tart.. I'd be good with that.
Matt - I definitely don't own the idea, but it does drive most of my brewing. And I like it that way, even if the results aren't always quite what I'd hoped for.

I managed to get some of the Funk Weapon #1... straight into a sour fermenter it went! :) I'll be interested to see if it changes the profile of my house sour culture.
