Hey folks,

Balanced Division scoresheets are up and available for download in your "my admin" area. I hope to have Hoppy and Balanced also up on Friday.

Warning: all beers appear to have working scoresheet links. Please note that these only work for Balanced beers at the moment!

Sweet. Great feedback on the ESB. Looking forward to getting the Malty and Hoppy sheets as well. Thanks for publishing what you had.

Thanks for getting these up so quick!

I just noticed the not-yet-working links and came here to check it out. It was good (for me) that Balanced is the one up since my Cal Common was the best of my three so I got to read the best comments first :)

I hope that you had some tasty beer to accompany the task of scanning and uploading 200 score sheets.

Thanks for getting them up! There were some good comments that I can use to hopefully tweak my ESB a bit and make it even better!

Great feedback on the ESB

Yeah, i was pretty surprised at how much i got, as well. Glad to see why i got marked down a bit in some detail, and was very happy with the suggestions for improvement.

Initially I was bummed about my scores, 24/20...but it's the first competition I've ever entered.  Now after seeing the scoresheets for my Blonde Ale, I'm stoked about my scores despite how low they are.  Great feedback, and I can take this and actually roll with it.  Both of the judges addressed possible pH problems, which is what I was dealing with during the process, so spot on, on their part.  Definitely going to take their feedback and re-brew these with some modifications!  Thanks judges!

Awesome feedback, David! If it makes you feel any better, I just scored 24 at a local comp with a beer I had felt really good about... and my feedback wasn't NEARLY as thorough as a lot of the BU scoresheets I've read.

I am really proud of the comments about the good feedback on scoresheets! THIS is something that sets a great reputation for the competition and a differentiation from some of the more notorious competitions around the states.

I totally agree, Matt. So far, almost all of the score sheet feedback that I have seen has been very positive. That makes me feel really good.

Unique competition structure, awesome prizes, great judge feedback? My desire for this to be a major annual event might not be a pipe dream.

That's great to hear. We have some very new judges here, but I saw mostly very full and complete scoresheets. Hopefully they came across well.

I'm glad to hear you plan on making this a tradition. I think it's a super cool format, and I've really enjoyed getting to be a part of it. Plus, I'll always have the fond memory of the LHBS employee's reaction upon hearing I was brewing an ESB after reading off my grain bill. Priceless

Loved the feedback on my ESB, as judges pointed to issues that most certainly happened (fermentation at too high a temperature), lower than desired bitterness and hop presence (I tend to under-hop), not as malty or as much body as desired (I did mash a bit low) and... slight soapy taste detected by one of the judges? That last one had me stumped until I read more about Challenger hops, which to some can taste somewhat soapy.

Having these means my next ESB will not be too different ingredient-wise, though I'll likely substitute Challenger with EKG or Fuggle. I'll have better temp control by then and will adjust my mash temp and hop additions accordingly.
