So, my wife hooked me up with a fantastic start at a kegging setup. Three corny kegs, a CO2 bottle, a regulator, a four way manifold, various tubing and such, a temp controller, and one perlick/shank combo.

So, the best I can tell, I can run one keg right now, but expand pretty easily to three - just need the faucets themselves. I think.

Now, on to my utter boob question.

I currently have a batch of brown ale in a carboy that I could have bottled three weeks ago. I'm strongly considering kegging it now.

However, I'm about to brew an IPA, and I certainly want to take advantage of the benefits of kegging (i.e. less oxygen exposure) there.

Is there any reason why I can't keg them both, just switch which one is hooked up to the tap at a given time? Or should I just hold off on one right now until I get another faucet?

Thanks for the input!

Switch away. Just keep a couple paper towels and spray bottle of star san handy as there will be some slight leakage when you remove the disconnect.

That's what I was thinking... thanks for the prep idea, though. I'd have just made the mess for sure.

Thanks!

alternative: buy the gas disconnects (cheap) and tubing (super cheap), and then get a picnic tap setup (also cheap).

I used picnic taps for a while. Dont get me wrong, i love my faucets and would never go *back*, but its a nice short term solution, and great for taking beer somewhere else if you want to have a whole keg with you. Theyre also awesome for filling bottles. Cram a piece of tubing over the end thats about 12" long, turn the pressure way down (i had to do that always when using picnic taps, like 3-4 PSI iirc), and fill like you would from a bottling bucket.

Nice idea. I wonder if the LHBS has a picnic tap setup? I believe that I have the disconnects and tubing that I need.

I guarantee they sell cobra/picnic taps, likely for about $3.

Good grief, are they THAT cheap?

They carry very little gear, but if they don't have them, I can probably order one from somewhere. Sounds like something I ought to have, just in case.
