Hey guys, starting a new series of posts focusing on brewing water, chemistry, Bru'n Water Spreadsheet and other tips/tricks/strategies for treating your brewing liquor.
Some of them will be fairly basic and introductory, others detailed and complex. Always >> the focus is on application in the brewery and not the core science, although that may have to come up!

In case you haven't swung by the garage lately...
http://accidentalis.com/archives/894 - Grain Mill Case build. Will add some more photos of this in action later, and probably have a post on milling.
also...
http://accidentalis.com/archives/770 - Introduction in the Brewing Water Series (yeah actually second post, but who is counting?)

Cool. Keep the good links coming!
When you mill, do you condition your grain first? I'm starting to consider a mill (even though my LHBS is great at milling), so I'm starting to pay attention to technique here.

I conditioned my malt for the first time a week ago and the husks were so well preserved that I almost thought my mill didn't crush the grains. The only downside was that when I let the RPM of my drill drop too low the mill kicked like a mule from a jam.

I conditioned with my 2 roller mill. Seemed like it was necessary to help me crush a bit finer than I should with a RIMS system.
Will have a brew day or two this coming week so will know better if it will need conditioning or no.

So just posted up a peek into my garage and a gorgeous brew day...

Aww, nicely done! I thought that I had good weather this weekend, but I think that you have me beaten.

I recently read your blog from January 5th about measuring mash pH in practice.. Really enjoyed it, and am going to try to incorporate that into my brew day..

Ok... I finally got the pictures and video loaded into this - I give you the "Damn the torpedo... or Hopback Pt 1"

Awesome man, makes me want to try a hop back! Seems really interesting

Sweet!

This is a good post, but I don't understand why it's "part 1"
Posted 34 days ago.
Part 2 will cover any decisions on dry hopping (if it needs it) and a BJCP style score of the final product. Not scientific, but hopefully a good swag at the benefits/downside to all hopback brews.

AND... yet another Brewing Water Series with apologies to Marshall... Brulosopher's Best Brown. Took it a different direction than traditional - hoping it will be significantly but pleasantly different.

Will follow up with some notes from Marshall in a few weeks.
Not planning to post all of these to Reddit - probably just the bigger features. Will see.
