Last night, I emailed my order to my LHBS (Alabrew), with the plan of picking it up today. This would be a totally "free" visit for me, as I was going to use my birthday gift certificate.
Dumb me left said certificate at home this morning. I emailed them to ask if they had started keeping electronic records of these; if not, I could just come tomorrow. They emailed me back with a "we know you, we trust you, come on in and we'll settle up next time."
Yeah.

Man, that's awesome. Things like that are the reason I keep going back to homebrew shops, even if it is a little more expensive (which it almost always is not).
To make a point, my LHBS recently got me 2#s of Challenger. I love Challenger. It wasn't until I got there that I realized I had forgotten my wallet, and he says "It's totally fine man, just catch me the next time you come in or give it to me at the homebrew club meeting." I was baffled, he insisted I take the hops.

That's great.
I wish I could talk Alabrew into updating their site. They do a fabulous job on ingredients, but their site looks like 2001 geocities.

Same! my LHBS let me borrow a crimping tool I used on the gas/beer lines of my keezer..
It's definitely a two-way street, small businesses like that extend an olive branch and I am more than happy to give them my money.

Just looked at the site, it is terrifying.

Told you so. Suddenly, my pitiful design skills don't look so bad, do they?
